The SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department (AQD) hosted the Twentieth Meeting of SEADEC Information Staff Program (20 ISP) from 15 to 17 October 2019 in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines. The Meeting reviewed the implementation in the year 2019 of the information strategies aimed at enhancing the visibility of SEAFDEC.
The Chief of AQD, Mr. Dan Baliao welcomed the participants and expressed the appreciation to the new Secretary-General of SEAFDEC Ms. Malinee Smithrithree, for coming all the way to Palawan for the Meeting. He also stressed that in our contemporary society, information dissemination has become more efficient through online digital media.
During the Meeting, recommendations and suggestions were made for the SEAFDEC Secretariat and Departments, to raise their awareness on the security of data stored in the websites and other social media. Moreover, since all Departments have established their respective institutional repositories, the Meeting requested the SEAFDEC Secretariat to revise the draft of the template for monitoring the repositories and for further effective analysis of their respective repositories.
In closing the Meeting, the SEAFDEC Deputy Secretary-General, Mr. Akito Sato expressed his appreciation to the participants for their inputs that enabled the meeting to achieve its objectives. He also cited the need to strengthen cooperation between and among the SEAFDEC Departments in order that the accomplishments of SEAFDEC could be effectively delivered to the target audience. He also thanked the SEAFDEC Inland Fishery Resources Development and Management Department (IFRDMD) for the offer to host the next ISP Meeting in 2020 in Indonesia.
