The Secretary-General of SEAFDEC, Ms. Malinee Smithrithee delivered the statement at the FAO Global Conference on Aquaculture Millennium +20, which was held on 22-25 September 2021 in Shanghai, China. The Conference is hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of the People’s Republic of China and the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA). The theme of the Conference focused on “Aquaculture for food and sustainable development”.

“…to ensure the sustainability of aquaculture considering its contribution to food supply for people all over the word, SEAFDEC Member Countries recently adopted the Resolution and Plan of Action on Sustainable Fisheries for Food Security for the ASEAN Region Towards 2030 (RES&POA-2030). For over 50 decades, SEAFDEC has provided technical assistance to its Member Countries including production of good quality seed, reduction of fish-based ingredients for aquaculture feeds, management of fish health considering the linkage between aquaculture and environment, among others.
