The SEAFDEC Secretary-General, Ms. Malinee Smithrithee, delivered a statement during the virtual East Asia Summit (EAS) Workshop on Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing on 12 April 2022, which was co-hosted by the governments of India and Singapore. Ms. Malinee’s statement on the efforts of the ASEAN Member States (AMSs) to combat IUU fishing underscored the regional policy documents on the prevention of the IUU fishing including the Joint ASEAN-SEAFDEC Declaration on Regional Cooperation for Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing and Enhancing the Competitiveness of ASEAN Fish and Fishery Products and the Resolution and Plan of Action on Sustainable Fisheries for Food Security for the ASEAN Region Towards 2030. She also shared the initiatives of SEAFDEC such as the ASEAN Guidelines for Preventing the Entry of Fish and Fishery Products from IUU Fishing Activities into the Supply Chain, the Regional Fishing Vessels Record for Vessels 24 Meters in Length and Over (RFVR-24m), electronic ASEAN Catch Documentation Scheme (eACDS) for Marine Capture Fisheries, capacity building for human resources to implement of the port State measures through the cooperation among the AMSs.
