SEAFDEC welcomed the Civil Affairs Team Leader of the U.S. Embassy Bangkok, Mr. Andrew Shin, lead for ecosystems management for USAID in Asia, Mr. Brad Arsenault, and representative from USAID Regional Development Mission for Asia (RDMA), Ms. Araya Poomsaringkarn, on 8 February 2023 at the SEAFDEC Secretariat in Bangkok, Thailand. SEAFDEC presented the achievements of the previous collaboration between SEAFDEC and the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) under the project “Implementing the Lower Mekong Fish Passage Initiative in Cambodia, Thailand, and Viet Nam.” Moreover, the possible collaboration on the promotion of fish passages in Southeast Asia was also discussed. Also, the workplan of USAID SUFIA Technical Support activities in the Indo-Pacific region was introduced to SEAFDEC, highlighting the technical support of the USAID SUFIA TS to regional fisheries organizations in Southeast Asia including ASEAN, Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF), and Regional Plan of Action to Promote Responsible Fishing Practices including Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing in the Region (RPOA-IUU).
