SEAFDEC Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center
The Secretary-General of SEAFDEC, Ms. Malinee Smithrithee, along with the Policy and Program Coordinator of the SEAFDEC Secretariat, Dr. Worawit Wanchana, and the Head of the Program Planning and Management Division of the Training Department, Mr. Isara Chanrachkij, paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Department of Livestock and Fisheries (DLF) of Lao PDR and SEAFDEC Council Director for Lao PDR, Mr. Kaviphone Phouthavong, on 26 April 2023 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
During the visit, SEAFDEC and DLF officials discussed the technical assistance as well as research and development initiatives that SEAFDEC could extend to Lao PDR to improve fisheries management practices, including community-based fisheries management of the country. They also discussed capacity-building programs for fisheries officers and local communities to improve their skills and knowledge of fisheries management and conservation, including data collection and gender analysis.
Furthermore, SEAFDEC officials visited Luang Prabang Fisheries Office and Tin-chom Fisheries Product Center on 27 April 2023 in Luang Prabang Province to gather information on issues and capacity-building needs at the provincial level focusing on additional income and food security of fishery communities.
