SEAFDEC Secretary-General, Ms. Malinee Smithrithee, and the Policy and Program Coordinator of the SEAFDEC Secretariat, Dr. Worawit Wanchana, attended the 10th Ocean Summit in Lisbon, Portugal from 27 February to 1 March 2023. Organized by The Economist, the Summit served as the venue for industry experts, investment specialists, and conservation organizations to provide impartial insights on how to simultaneously benefit from and protect the oceans. During the Summit, a dedicated track on “cities and the ocean” was included where experts discussed how cities can utilize the ocean for economic growth and climate resilience while minimizing harm. In addition, panels were held on investment opportunities and innovations in aquaculture, plastics, renewable marine energy, and shipping. With over 180 speakers, the participants had the chance to hear from industry leaders and share success stories about changing the way businesses operate in the ocean. Networking was also the core feature of the event, as the Summit facilitated connections across ocean-based industries and conservation organizations. The participation of SEAFDEC participation underscored the organization’s commitment to the sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture sector of Southeast Asia.
