SEAFDEC joins Closing Ceremony of the training course on fisheries MCS in Southeast Asia

The Secretary-General of SEAFDEC, Dr. Suttinee Limthammahisorn, together with the Policy and Program Coordinator, Dr. Worawit Wanchana, and Senior Policy Officer, Ms. Pattaratjit Kaewnuratchadasorn, joined the closing ceremony of the training course on fisheries MCS in Southeast Asia on 1 November 2024 in Nha Trang City, Viet Nam. The Training was organized by Nha Trang University in Viet Nam in collaboration with the Government of Australia with the participation of fisheries officers from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Viet Nam.

On this occasion, Dr. Suttinee delivered the closing message where she emphasized the collective efforts made by SEAFDEC in implementing regional initiatives on combating IUU fishing i.e. the development of the ASEAN Guidelines for Preventing the Entry of IUU Fish and Fishery Products into the Supply Chain, Regional Fishing Vessels Record (RFVR), and ASEAN Catch Documentation Scheme, as well as capacity-building initiatives on the implementation of port State measures and strengthening MCS in the region. Moreover, she reiterated that SEAFDEC has been undertaking several activities to enhance the capacity of the ASEAN Member States (AMSs) in addressing IUU fishing in the Southeast Asia region and actively collaborates with various partners including FAO, ASEAN, USAID, Japan, NOAA, RPOA-IUU, IMCS Network, and the Government of Australia. In addition, she expressed the commitment of SEAFDEC, in partnership with other organizations, to continue support the AMSs in carrying out various activities to enhance the capacity of the AMSs to achieve the sustainability of fishery resources in Southeast Asia.
