SEAFDEC Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center
With the theme “Fifty years of championing science-based aquaculture technologies” of the 50th Anniversary of SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department (AQD), the weeklong celebration culminated with the Anniversary Program on 7 July 2023 in Iloilo, Philippines. The Secretary-General of SEAFDEC, Ms. Malinee Smithrithee, was one of the key speakers at the event. While emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts among the SEAFDEC Member Countries, Ms. Malinee congratulated AQD on its significant milestones in promoting sustainable aquaculture practices in Southeast Asia.
The Anniversary Program brought together distinguished guests from the government, research, and industry sectors to honor the remarkable five decades of achievements of AQD in aquaculture research and development. The Deputy Secretary-General of SEAFDEC, Ms. Tomoko Nakazato, and officials from the SEAFDEC Secretariat and Training Department also joined the event.
The Anniversary Program showcased the groundbreaking research initiatives, innovative technologies, and capacity-building programs of AQD to foster knowledge exchange and future collaborations. The event concluded with renewed determination to advance aquaculture research and development, reaffirming the commitment of SEAFDEC to the responsible utilization of aquatic resources for the welfare and future generations of the region.
