SEAFDEC Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SEAFDEC and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) was signed during a ceremony held in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia on 24 September 2024. Signed by the SEAFDEC Secretary-General, Dr. Suttinee Limthammahisorn, and the Vice Chancellor of the UMT, Prof. Ts Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim, the five-year MOU is aimed at strengthening and developing cooperation between SEAFDEC and UMT on the exchange of academic staff, administrative staff, and students; fostering joint opportunities in the field of mutual interests; and sharing of research and academic information and other research and academic activities. The Signing Ceremony was witnessed by the Chief of SEAFDEC/MFRDMD, Mr. Abd. Haris Hilmi bin Ahmad Arshad, Director of the Institute of Tropical Aquaculture and Fisheries (AKUATROP), Dr. Mhd Ikhwanuddin Abdullah, and senior officials and representatives from SEAFDEC and UMT.
Prior to the Signing Ceremony, SEAFDEC was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Director of the AKUATROP, Associate Prof. Ts. Dr. Nor Azman Kasan. AKUATROP is a research institute of UMT established on 3 October 2024 with the goal of increasing the production of important fishes, shrimps, and other aquatic species through research and development. SEAFDEC and AKUATROP exchanged information on the organization’s roles, areas of work, and potential areas of collaboration. SEAFDEC also visited the laboratories and hatchery facilities of the AKUATROP.
